Product Design: Useful and Unuseful Objects
Lattice
The course is about understanding the material and think through as a game. We divided ourselves into 9 groups and choose the topic we are interesting in. We selected Lattice, a continuously growing and repeating structure . So, we trying to understand the geometry of Tetrapod to design a game, where we can play with a magnets and build a structure through it.
Stage 1
So, we started Analyzing the geometry of tetrapod and how can we create only one surface development without dividing into other parts. Here, we work with the 1.5 cm of hexagon and
6 cm of the length.
We made the physical model by using surface development. So, there were the two possibilities we figured out . We selected the hexagonal tetrapod because there were the more surfaces we can play with than the other one.
Stage 2
Firstly, we design a 3D Tetrapod in AutoCAD Fusion and Print a physical model. The procedure took around 5 hrs to print physical model. The material used here is PLA . (Polylactic acid)
Stage 3
Then we made a mould for Silicon and placed the 3d model into it.
We pour around 1.3 gm of silicon and wait till 3hrs to let it dry.
Stage 4
We cut the Silicon mould from the Centre and remove the 3D model from it . Then we apply the releasing agent for 12 hrs.
Stage 5 Casting
Next, we pour Resign (215 gm) into silicon mould mixed it with cobalt (2gm) and hardener (2gm).
It took around 2 hrs to complete the casting procedure then we remove the silicon mould and cast the Resign tetrapod.
